Our eyes are not like God’s

And on top of that, those different filters in the lenses of the glasses

Samuel had a tough job on his hands: God asked him to anoint a new king among Jesse’s sons – but which one stood out? The Lord’s advice was simple yet powerful: “‘Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.’.”

We humans often see things through our own murky lenses – suspicion, prejudice, or fear. Our vision is easily flawed, and our impressions can be so superficial that even regular contact with someone doesn’t always reveal their real self. God, on the other hand, sees everything with perfect clarity, without any shadow of darkness. He knows our hearts inside out, without being swayed by our clothes, hairstyle, or mood.

It’s tempting to wish for God’s eyes, not just to peer into others but to see ourselves more truly. When we let God heal our spiritual sight, we start seeing what really matters: the preciousness of every person and the truth about ourselves. So, let’s ask Him to clean our glasses, to help us notice what’s beneath the surface, and to love as He loves.

Lord, please heal our eyes, so that we can see the beauty and dignity in each person. Help us see ourselves more clearly, and along the way, might we borrow a pair of Your ‘glasses’ too?
