I You

Oct 18, 2022

Feast of St Luke, Evangelist – 2 Tim 4:10-17; Psalm 145:10-13,17-18; Luke 10:1-9

Another day following Jesus’ loving gaze. Nothing unusual. After all, it stands at the beginning of faith, of Christian experience. It is the foundation, the only one on which to build the rest.

How much they must have been fascinated and increasing in confidence that they followed Him. After all, they went. After all, more followed in the future. No fearing being among wolves. Because when touched by Jesus’ gaze, one doesn’t think about wolves. You carry His image in your heart. It is this image that frees from fear. But also, frees you from clinging to security that give a false sense of safety. And from the habits of a life walked along well-trodden paths.

The message precedes being chosen. If it doesn’t precede there is no continuation.

He did not order, He did not force, He did not subordinate. He chose with such delicacy, subtlety, and love that a person could respond with one choice to being chosen. To feel joy, is to be on the right track.

Lord Jesus Christ, You choose and answer You are the way I must travel and the home where I am to live. You live and reign for ever and ever. Amen.
