My “Thought for the Week” in the Campbeltown Courier
Purpose rarely lands like a lightning strike; it takes shape as we carry what’s ours. As Jordan Peterson often says, meaning shows up when we shoulder responsibility, tell the truth, and aim for the highest good, not the easiest comfort or the loudest applause.
Let’s be honest: the world is full of glittering substitutes – status, likes, quick wins – that promise fulfilment but leave us empty. They count image and noise, not substance and love.
Jesus offers a better way. In the wilderness, He refused the shortcuts: turning stones to bread, putting on a show, grabbing power. He lived for the Father’s will, stood with those on the edges, washed tired feet, called out hypocrisy, and carried a cross He didn’t deserve. His life says purpose is forged where service meets sacrifice, where courage meets compassion, and where truth is lived even when it costs.
If you’re wondering what your purpose is, start close to home. Keep your word. Look in on your neighbour. Do the small, necessary good no one notices. Choose responsibility over convenience, integrity over image, and love over self-promotion.
Purpose isn’t a feeling to chase; it’s a path to walk – step by steady step – towards what is good, true, and beautiful.
So, this week, take up one honest duty. Speak one brave truth. Offer one quiet act of service. In that humble faithfulness, you may find that purpose has already started to find you.
