5th Sunday in Lent – Jer 31:31-34; Hbr 5:7-9; John 12:20-33
I will be their God, and they will be my people (Jer 31:33).
Despite the everyday monotony of life, we still feel the need for something new. It’s not just about a momentary fascination with some trend or the pursuit of sensationalism. It may also be something new in the sense of spiritual development. . . In this respect, it’s worth reaching for proven models that the Church offers, presenting a whole range of schools of spirituality.
Lent reminds us that we live in the new covenant. This is an opportunity for spiritual rebirth from boredom or discouragement with everyday life. Jesus, who offered the sacrifice of the new covenant for us, is present in the life-giving Eucharist, which is the source of life.
As Catholics, we must fight to deepen our faith in the saving power of Jesus. Because He wants us to die to sin, to the old man in ourselves, and to rise from darkness to a new life of grace. In this way the Son of God is glorified in us.
Lord, give us a big heart, capable of encompassing the world.
