Fruit
Is it good? We quickly learn what and in what way.
Wednesday of Week 12 – 2 Kings 22:8-13; 23:1-3; Ps 119; Matthew 7:15-20
You will recognise them by their fruits. By your fruits you will know whether you are dealing with a true or false prophet. By the fruits you will know if you are dealing not with wolves but with sheep disguised. . .
Prophets. That is, those who teach us. Not just in the Church. Let’s see what fruit the teachings of this or that prophet bring. Is it truth, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control? Or rather, lies, fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, envy, anger, undue pursuit of honour, dissensions, factions, jealousy, drunkenness, revelry?
Lord, may we abide in You ever more and through You abiding in us produce more good fruit. Let us become less so that Your harvest may increase and realise that I may not always see the good fruit.
