Tuesday, Week 6 – Genesis 6:5-8,7:1-5,10; Mark 8:14-21

Sicily – in the city of Enna, stands a cathedral dedicated to the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Within the sanctuary, there is a relief depicting a scene from the Old Testament: Noah’s Ark.

And Noah did all that the Lord had commanded him. Genesis 6.

The world, mired in sin, has turned away from God. People, following their own selfish and wicked paths, have forgotten their Creator. This was evident in Noah’s time and remains true today. We witness empty churches, a decline in vocations, and increasing acts of apostasy. Yet, amidst this darkness, there was Noah – a righteous man who remained steadfast in his faith. God did not abandon him; instead, He provided a means of salvation: the Ark.

Noah didn’t resist God’s command, even though the task of building the Ark seemed absurd to those around him. He persevered in obedience, trusting that God knows best. Even in the face of overwhelming evil, sin, and injustice, God will find a way to bring about salvation. However, this requires the cooperation of humanity. Noah accepted this responsibility and, as a result, he was saved.

Are we able to trust God even when His ways seem beyond our understanding? Are we willing to fulfil His will despite the challenges we face?
