Thursday after Epiphany – 1 John 4:19-5:4; Luke 4:14-22
Can love be commanded? Forced to love despite hurts, abused trust, abused kindness, betrayed fidelity, mocked feelings? These are not unfamiliar questions at all, asked probably by everyone who tries to face challenges and problems, wondering whether love often has to go uphill and against the wind rather than downhill and with the wind.
It is in such situations that one word appears. It is necessary. So often repeated by Jesus. It is necessary to take responsibility. For what has been tamed and for what cannot be tamed. Despite darkness and uncertainty. More out of duty than desire. More often with tears than with enthusiasm. Today. Every day anew. So that every day the commandment becomes new.
