Saturday of Week 10 – 1 Kings 19:19-21; Ps 15:1-2,5,7-10; Matthew 5:33-37
Say [..] “Yes” if you mean yes, “No” if you mean no; anything more than this comes from the evil one.
Jesus continues the Sermon on the Mount by talking about truthfulness. He calls on His disciples, including us, to be trustworthy without the need to take oaths. It calls for simplicity and honesty in speech. So that our “yes” always means “yes” and “no” means “no”. This is a call for authenticity and transparency in our words. Clarity and avoiding ambiguity.
True faith requires us to be trustworthy. May our words match our actions and our promises be kept. Jesus suggests that oaths are not necessary if we are people of truth. Truthfulness does not need additional assurances or correction.
