Friday of Week 31 – Phil 3:17-4:1; Ps 121:1-5; Luke 16:1-8
“There are many who are behaving as the enemies of the cross of Christ. They are destined to be lost. They make foods into their god and they are proudest of something they ought to think shameful; the things they think important are earthly things. For us, our homeland is in heaven.”
Who did Saint Paul mean? I am not afraid neither pagans or Jews. He had not written about them; that they acted as enemies of the cross of Christ. He meant some Christians. Their fate is destruction, their god their belly, and their glory is what they should be ashamed of.
In the era of fashion for a slim figure, the idol of the belly has been replaced by its relative, the goddess of consumption. A big house, two expensive cars, trips to exotic countries or the most expensive places in Europe. But bragging, about what a Christian should be ashamed of, has remained.
Who am I thinking about? Above all, about myself. I am ashamed that sometimes I remind you of these pseudo-Christians. I don’t want my fate to be lost. After all, my homeland is heaven.
