For he has said, ‘I will never leave you nor forsake you.’ So we can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear’ – as the author of Hebrews reminds us. He shares this truth with us, Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and for ever.

What power does man truly hold over me? For example, he might take my life – not necessarily from conviction, but perhaps due to a rash promise, an error, or indifference to what might seem insignificant. Yet, what does this signify? Did God forsake John the Baptist? Did He forsake those who died in His name?

“Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell,” He once proclaimed. This profound message requires deep trust. He Himself exemplified this, dying and then rising to live eternally.

We often seek guarantees of safety, hoping to shield ourselves and our loved ones from harm, wishing for evil to remain distant. Yet, He permitted evil to affect Him – and by doing so, ultimately conquered it. Evil might reach us and might even take our physical lives, but with Him, it cannot annihilate us.
