Second Wednesday of Advent – Is 40:25-31; Matthew 11:28-30
“Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Mt 11:28).
Jesus’ call is for the weary, the wounded, the overlooked – the ones who know they can’t carry life on their own. When you’re sick, oppressed, or poor in spirit, you feel that deep need for healing. In a world that often celebrates self-sufficiency and the curated image of independence, Jesus offers something far more real: Himself.
He is the Divine Physician, and His mercy is a balm for tired hearts – bringing relief in suffering, hope in the middle of despair, and comfort in sadness. The way into that rest is simple and brave: come humbly, open your heart, and invite Him into your life – into your relationships, your fears, your pain, your mess. Let Him be Lord where you feel least in control.
Saint Peter puts it plainly: “Cast all your worries on Him, because He cares about you” (1 Pt 5:7). That’s not wishful thinking – it’s the steady truth of the Gospel.
Lord, in this Advent, lead me on the humble path. Keep me from grumbling about what’s unfinished or what I’ve given up for You. Strengthen me with the sight of Your wisdom and power, and teach me to hand over every care, trusting that You truly care for me.
