Monday of Week 29 – Eph 2:110; Ps 99:1-5; Luke 12:13-21

“Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to stand with confidence before the Son of Man” (Luke 21:36).

The end times and the second coming of Christ seem to be concepts that are of little and sporadic interest even to the disciples of the Master of Nazareth. And He Himself calls for vigilance and prayer. The point is not to get lost in the chaos of everyday life and to place one’s affairs in the perspective of eternity, being aware that “a voice that speaks of peace”.

Living in the present constantly focused on the future is a characteristic feature of holy people. Today, the Church presents to me the example of Saint John Paul II, pope, a great lover of the Eucharist and the Mother of God. He himself lived a life of prayer, and offered himself to the world.

Today I have the opportunity to consider whether I am able to limit myself to what is necessary for everyday life, noticing those in need around me. All this so that nothing would interfere with my faithful vigil.
