Lent 4 Monday – Is 65:17-21; John 4:43-54
The concept of ‘joy’ and ‘gladness’ may seem a tad out of place during Lent, a time typically marked by self-denial and a sense of penance, reminiscent of ‘sackcloth and ashes’. Yet, amidst these austere traditions, we encounter a rather cheerful promise: “I now create Jerusalem ‘Joy’ and her people ‘Gladness'”. One might wonder, how do we reconcile joy with the sombre tone of Lent?
We’re all too familiar with the definitions of laughter, fun, dancing, and cavorting – the conventional ingredients of human enjoyment. However, there’s a nuanced difference between these expressions and the deeper, more profound reality of being truly ‘glad’ and ‘rejoicing’. It’s not merely about being the life of the party but embodying the very essence of joy and gladness.
Imagine this: our faith healing us, the Blood of Christ cleansing us, His Spirit filling us to the point of beauty so radiant that it moves God Himself to sing and dance! Yes, you heard that right! Our transformation could be so profound that God would rename us ‘Gladness’ and ‘Joy’. How’s that for an identity upgrade?
As much as we are called to embrace repentance and patience during this season, there’s a part of us that just can’t wait to dive into this divine joy.
Lord, even though I’m not after flashy signs, knowing Your immense love for me is dazzling enough. It inspires me to continually immerse myself in Your saving Blood and Divine Mercy, with the assurance that Your Word alone guides me to these endless depths of joy and gladness. Let’s embrace this spiritual makeover and keep our hearts tuned to the heavenly melodies of His joy!
