Monday of Week 31 – Phil 2:1-4; Ps 130:1-3; Luke 14:12-14

Paul does not doubt, although the word “if” may suggest it. The convincing power of love first knocked him off his horse, blinded him, and then accompanied him on his journey to the ends of the world. Participation in the Spirit was revealed in the knowledge of the Body of Christ, endowed with countless charisms, given for the common good. Heartfelt compassion made us rejoice with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep.

So where did the ambiguous “if our life. . .” at the beginning of today’s reading come from?

Perhaps from a deep conviction that God does not force anything. Even by throwing him off his horse, blinding him, filling him with extraordinary gifts, He leaves a margin of freedom, expressed in Jesus’ “if you want to”.

I want to. This is where it all begins.
