Friday of Week 10 – 1 Kings 19:9,11-16; Matthew 5:27-32

Then he was told, ‘Go out and stand on the mountain before the Lord.’  1 Kings 19

Elijah meets with God on Mount Horeb. After a great spiritual triumph over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, he flees from Queen Jezebel and finds himself lonely and discouraged. In the cave where he stays, God reveals himself to him not in a violent wind, earthquake or fire, but in a quiet breeze.

Elijah’s encounter with God teaches that God often reveals himself in silence, not in spectacular events. In today’s hustle and bustle, it is important to find time for quiet prayer and meditation, to listen to the silence and hear His voice.
