Monday of 5th Week of Lent – Dan 13:1-9,15-17,19-30,33-62; John 8:1-11
It’s okay to be afraid. A man with a great reputation, connections, power, associates. . . Who would believe that he presented me with “an offer I can’t refuse”? My word compared to his means nothing!
It’s okay to be afraid. After all, he suggested, or even was quite open about, the fact that he would not let the “proposal” be rejected. I would lose much. Very much. Too much.
It’s okay to be afraid. Succumb to blackmail. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a big thing, sometimes it’s just a “small thing”. Is it worth risking so much for a “little thing”?
But you can also be afraid – and refuse. Like Susanna. To believe not a hair of your head will be lost without God’s consent. Overcome fear with the courage to trust.
