Week 32 Monday – Titus 1:1-9; Ps 23:1-6; Luke 17:1-6
Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord?
Who shall stand in his holy place? Ps 24
Responsibility for others increases with the function that a person fulfils in life. Very often we point out politicians, public figures, that they scandalise other people with their lives, choices, and opinions they proclaim. However, Jesus addresses today’s words not only to them, but to each of us and to me. Because I bear responsibility for those whom I have led to evil with my attitude. Of course, my motivations are also important here. After all, it may happen that evil is released in someone not through my fault, but because of their weaknesses.
Responsibility for others is also manifested in concern for their eternity, and salvation, therefore, as Jesus says, we need to admonish each other. It is important that the admonition comes out of love, and not from a sense of being better than others. It will not be effective if it is only pointing out someone’s weaknesses. On the contrary, it will hurt and close you off to the truth you want to point out. It will not bear fruit if it is an attempt to satisfy your own need to feel better than others.
Not to scandalise with your life is not easy. And also to admonish effectively, but with love. And for the Apostles, the words of Jesus seemed difficult, since immediately after them they ask Him to increase their faith. Maybe it is my weak faith that makes me a scandal to others, and I admonish without love? Lord, increase my faith!
