Feast of St Patrick – Jer 1:4-9; Acts 13:46-49; Luke 10:1-12,17-20

There is in the sending of the disciples a great trust by God of man. After all, they weren’t prepared. A few weeks or months with the Master was too little. More: Jesus didn’t ask and didn’t check whether they could really heal the sick. He simply sent them as they were.

There is in the sending of the disciples a great trust by man of God. For surely, they were aware of their individual shortcomings and overnight going from disciple to teacher. And yet worry and fear did not prevail. Trust prevailed.

So, proclaiming the Gospel is not the product of perfect preparation and maturity of faith or personality. It is the result of God’s trust in us and our trust in God.

And in this it is worth remembering . . . Not to begin with sermons. The first is: eat what you are offered.

Jesus, thank You for trusting us and sending out Your Good News to our fellow neighbours.
