The Feast of Saint Luke, Evangelist – 2 Tim 4:10-17; Psalm 144:10-13,17-18; Luke 10:1-9
I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.
In the Gospel this is probably the most beautiful. All these humanly impossible demands to fulfil that Jesus places on His disciples. To love enemies, return love for evil, don’t worry about daily needs . . . and there’s this which Jesus says in today’s Gospel: to go out with His mission, even though it seems to be a suicide mission . . .
Because none of this is impossible. Only it requires a change of perspective. From a purely human perspective to the Divine perspective. It’s possible, because we have a card in the hand which can trump any other: God, who is with us. And who, precisely because we fulfil His will, is never going to abandon us.
