Solemnity of Saint Andrew, apostle – Wis 3:1-9; Ps 30:3-4,6,8,17,21; Rom 10:9-18; Matthew 4:18-24

Belief isn’t just an idea in the mind — it’s something that lives deep in the heart. When we truly believe from the heart, we’re made righteous; and when we speak that belief aloud, we step into salvation. Faith isn’t simply a matter for the intellect — it’s a matter of the heart.

During Advent, the Lord calls to that very place within us. He speaks to those who are waiting, watching, longing for an encounter with Him. But it takes more than just waiting. To really hear His voice, we need to commit ourselves to Him personally, and choose obedience. That’s how we grow in our closeness with the Lord and stay faithful to our mission — to share the Good News.

Saint Andrew shows us the way. He recognised Jesus as the Messiah and wasted no time in bringing his brother Simon Peter to meet Him. His story is full of Gospel paradox — before meeting Christ he was one man, after meeting Christ he was another… yet still himself. In God’s hands, his past wasn’t thrown away; it was transformed. The fisherman became a fisher of men.

Advent has a lesson for all of us — watchfulness. It’s about paying attention to the signs of God at work, spotting His hints and whispers in the everyday. It’s a time to focus on the good in others, living out our faith through love — by giving our time, meeting people where they are, listening, sharing a conversation. All of it, simply because we want to bring joy to the Lord.

So, this Advent, let’s keep our eyes and hearts open. You never know how He’s going to speak… but when He does, it will change everything.
