Wednesday of Week 29 – Rom 6:12-18; Psalm 123:1-8; Luke 12:39-48

To be free
Wherever my eyes carry me … and where my legs allow 😉
Today we hear again from the Letter to the Romans. Saint Paul is blunt about freedom. It’s not whether we serve, but whom. “if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey; either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness.”
I’m always following something. A desire. A habit. A voice I let set the pace of my day. Maybe I wouldn’t call it slavery, but I’m certainly serving whatever I obey. So why not choose the better Master? Why serve selfishness, lies, and evil, when we can serve goodness, truth, and love? Why prop up the works of the enemy, when we can help God make this world more like His Kingdom?
Here’s the surprise: goodness doesn’t chain you. It frees you. Obedience to God isn’t about fear; it’s about trust. Sin promises freedom and pays out in chains. Christ asks for your heart and gives you His own. His truth doesn’t crush – it makes you free. His yoke is easy because it’s carried by love and grace.
So maybe today I can ask: whose voice am I obeying – my appetites, my pride, my fears, or Jesus? I know where each path leads. With grace, I choose Him.
Thank you, Lord, that I may be Your servant. In Your service is perfect freedom. Teach my heart to love what You command, so that obeying You becomes my joy – and my freedom – today and always.
