Saturday of Week 4 – Hebrews 13:15-17,20-21; Mark 6:30-34
Let’s take a moment to reflect on a powerful passage from the Gospel of Saint Mark. He tells us about a time when Jesus gave His followers the authority to heal and help others. When they returned, worn out from their efforts, Jesus noticed their fatigue and suggested a break. The crowds, however, were relentless. They were so eager and desperate that the disciples barely had time to eat.
Seeking a bit of peace, they escaped by boat, but the crowds followed them, driven by a deep longing for healing and hope. Despite the disciples’ exhaustion, the people pressed on, showing no concern for appropriateness or the weariness of those they sought out.
In our times, we often pride ourselves on being sensitive, yet there’s something to be said for the crowd’s determination. They knew what they needed and were relentless in their pursuit. When Jesus saw the multitude, His heart went out to them. They were lost, like sheep without a shepherd, and He began to teach them, offering the grace they so desperately sought.
Importantly, Jesus didn’t ask His tired disciples to handle the crowd. He took charge, meeting the needs of the people Himself. This is a vital lesson for us. We are not the saviours; we’re not meant to carry every burden alone.
And for those of us seeking grace, let’s not hold back. Remember, God’s strength never wanes; it is forever strong and boundless. We are His beloved children and the instruments of His love. Keep this truth close as you walk your faith journey.
