Saturday of Week 26 – Bar 4:5-12,27-29; Psalm 68:33-38; Luke 10:17-24
All these with one accord devoted themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with his brethren. (Acts 1)
The disciples were waiting for the fulfilment of the promise of receiving the Holy Spirit. Mary was also present among the disciples. Her presence reminds us that she is the Mother of the Church and a model of faith. Her faithfulness, humility and obedience should be an inspiration for us in our spiritual life and in our prayer.
The disciples’ unanimity in prayer shows the importance of the prayer life of the Church. Praying in a group can strengthen bonds between believers, but also strengthen our faith. Praying together can unite us as believers and help us achieve unity in spirit. It is worth inviting Mary to these struggles, in order to build our relationship with God with her and strengthen our attitude of openness to the Holy Spirit.
