Wednesday of Week 8 – 1 Peter 1:18-25; Mark 10:32-45

I don’t often think out the meaning of some words. But then sometimes I do, and it surprises me. Take for example the word “redeemed”.

. . . I see a market – a sale of humans – people with hands bound, not in control of their own fate, but slaves without rights, devoid of human dignity.

Or rather, I see myself, because Jesus purchased me with His Precious Blood. Thanks to this I became free.

Jesus redeemed me, and I continuously end up being bound by sin again and again.

Then it’s only after some time I discover with horror, as though my eyes are opened, that I have become accustomed to some enslavement. And that I’m not bothered about my lack of freedom – it’s comfortable, or it makes me feel better than some others.

This is perhaps the greatest slavery. And the greatest sadness of Jesus.

For freedom Christ has set us free. Stand firm, therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery (Gal 5:1).

God, who constantly strengthens the Church with Your mercy, grant me Your grace, so that despite my weakness I will faithfully and freely serve You.
