Friday of Week 24 – 1 Cor 15:35-37,42-49; Ps 56; Luke 8:4-15
“If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.” — Saint Paul (1 Cor 15:19)
If you’re following Christ just to have a nicer life now, Saint Paul says you’re missing the point – and he doesn’t mince his words: we’re to be pitied.
Christ is not a handy helper or a spiritual sponsor you can win over with prayers and pious efforts. He’s God. He cannot be bought, even with “holy” currency. Choose Him seriously, and He may well lead you into a harder path — the way of the Cross, not the way of comfort.
So what does He offer? The forgiveness of sins. Communion with God. Eternal life. That’s infinitely more than an easy existence.
This doesn’t mean your earthly life doesn’t matter. It matters deeply. Eternity has already begun; today is part of it. When you give your life to Christ, things will begin to be put in order. You will see miracles — sometimes striking, sometimes quiet and hidden — so woven into your days that they may start to feel almost ordinary.
And yet, miracles are not the centre. Christ is. What He gives is life — real life, unending, unlosable.
