Wednesday of Week 26 – Job 9:1-16; Ps 88; Luke 9:57-62
Yesterday we heard Job’s raw complaints — and, with them, a breathtaking reminder of the Creator’s power. Job points to the vast beauty and order of nature, and suddenly we feel our own smallness. In purely human terms, how could any one of us possibly matter to Someone who set the stars in place? When the news is full of conflict and tragedy, it can seem as if individual lives are swept aside without a second thought — even whole peoples treated as expendable in the disasters of war.
But then we meet the story of one Person: Jesus. And everything shifts. In Him, God tells us something completely different — that your life, your name, your wounds, your hopes, are not lost in the crowd. Your personal story matters to Him.
The Lord who made “the Bear and Orion, the Pleiades and the constellations of the south” is not distant. He notices. He draws close. He brings what’s hidden into the light, not because we earned it, but because He delights in us.
We have been heard and valued — loved from the beginning, before we could even ask. Loved patiently, even when we didn’t realise it. And in Christ, that love isn’t a vague idea; it has a face, a voice, and wounded hands reaching out for you.
