Friday of Week 34 – Apoc 20:1-4,11-2:1; Ps 83:3-6,8; Luke 21:29-33

So with you when you see these things happening: know that the kingdom of God is near. Luke 21

Jesus once again encourages us to be ready for the moment of meeting Him. And this can happen at any moment. I once asked my students what they would do if they found out that the end of the world would come in a few minutes. Most of them thought it was impossible, which is why it was hard for them to imagine such a situation. There were also those who looked for answers to satisfy the questioner. So, the answers were about prayer and confession. Someone else was outraged, thinking that it would be unfair because he still wanted to live, since others had already. If we asked adults the same question, I think the answers would be similar.

We talk about the end of the world, we look for prophecies that would provide the circumstances that accompany it, but I don’t think we really believe that it can happen at any moment. Our everyday life would be different if we lived in the awareness of its nearness. What would my life be like if I knew the end was near? Every day of my life could be my last. Do I live with that knowledge?
