Lent Week 1, Tuesday – Is 55:10-11; Matthew 6:7-15

In one of Anthony de Mello’s books he gives a short dialogue. A wife asks a husband if he remembered how she had forgiven him a betrayal years before. To which he replied: since you forgave, why do you remember. In this conversation the author summarises the passage from the hymn to love: love “keeps no record of wrongs”.

At the beginning of Lent we heard the call of Saint Paul: “The plea that we make in Christ’s name is: be reconciled to God”. Today we must make ourselves aware that this is not possible without being reconciled with those around us. Without forgiving those near us.
