Wednesday of 1st Week of Lent – Jonah 3:1-10; Psalm 51; Luke 11:29-32
Look around you; nature is everywhere, but have you ever stopped to think about the Creator behind it all? It’s a bit like what Jesus might say to us today, especially here in Scotland in the first half of the 21st century. He might point out that we’ve been given plenty of signs, yet many seem to ignore them. It’s almost as if people are setting themselves up for a harsher judgement because they’ve been blind to the evidence of God’s presence.
The truth is, seeing requires effort. People can’t just sit back and expect the signs to jump out at them while they’re glued to their phones, lost in a pint, or gazing into the eyes of a loved one. If we’re not actively looking for God’s signs, we’re likely to miss them. It’s easy to forget the good in our lives or take it for granted, thinking it’s just how things are. But when challenges arise, we suddenly wonder, “Where are you, God?”
Let’s be honest: it’s not about God hiding from people; it’s about them choosing to open their eyes and truly see the blessings and signs He’s placed in all of our lives. So, let’s make the effort to look beyond our distractions and recognise the divine in the everyday.
