Saturday of Week 34 – Apoc 22:1-7; Ps 94:1-7; Luke 21:34-36
Stay awake, praying at all times . . .
The vigilance to which Jesus calls us doesn’t demand from us a life lived in suspense, looking all the time for traces of signs that would herald His coming again. So, what is it? It’s living in a way so as to be ready to meet Him at any time. And not procrastinating repentance to the time when these signs appear. Because the risk exists that we may overlook or not notice them at all. It may also be that we don’t live to the end of time but are called by the Lord earlier than when He returns to earth, and what then? We should also be ready for that moment.
Will He then find our hearts weighed down by the effects of overindulgence, excessive drinking or worldly cares? And also free from attachment to them? Will we be even a little like Him, or will He have to say, I don’t you? Staying awake means living according the proper hierarchy of Christian values, then it’s not important whether the end is our death or His second coming.
O come, O come, Emmanuel!
