Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus

Deuteronomy 7:6-11; Psalm 103; 1 Jn 4:7-16; Mt 11:25-30

For His love defies all understanding. It’s a continual pursuit. Beginning with Adam. Through Egypt and Babylon. On the way to Jericho and Damascus. Among thorns. That constant concern. For the wounded and the lost. Even for the self-centred. That excruciating pain. When love is rejected. When called to freedom, He is plunged into slavery. As the sons of light wade into darkness . . .

Do you understand?

Because I don’t understand. I don’t even try. I have up my sleeve an image of the promises made, and I’m amazed. When He stoops down to the lowest, He washes with blood and water flowing from His side, He stoops down like the Samaritan, returning to grace. I don’t try. I wait. Until the day comes when understanding will no longer be needed.
