Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary – Apoc. 11:19-12:1-6,10; Psalm 44:1-12,16; 1 Cor 15:20-26; Luke 1:39-56

Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman, adorned with the sun, standing on the moon, and with the twelve stars on her head for a crown.

God gives people various signs, which are to lead them on the road of salvation. There are material signs, as there are personal signs – models, thanks to whom the light of the Good News can better illuminate the path of our everyday life. An exceptional sign of God’s love given to the world is the assumption of Mary. Because of God’s choice, “she is the saint among saints, the most blessed, the one who shows us the way of holiness and accompanies us” (Gaudete et Exsultate, 176).

Mary invites us to care about the faith, in which Mary precedes all pilgrims on earth and she supports them in their efforts to grow in holiness. Mary makes us sensitive to the needs of others, so that we make use of time through good words and deeds to be there for others and to carry Jesus to them. Mary teaches us to care for our earthly mother – the homeland, in which through a just life, concern for the common good and truth we develop our memory and identity, and in this way become ripe for heaven.
