Saturday of Week 4 – 1 Kings 3:4-13; Mark 6:30-34
As He stepped onto the shore, a vast crowd gathered around Him, their faces reflecting a deep need. Moved by compassion, He saw them as sheep without a shepherd, and so He began to teach them.
Young King Solomon, blessed with a unique opportunity from God to ask for anything his heart desired, chose not the riches of the earth or the comforts of power. Instead, he sought a heart filled with wisdom, one that would prioritise the well-being of those entrusted to his care. His desire was to be a just and fair ruler, one who truly shepherded his people.
In a similar light, today, we see Jesus faced with the option to rest but choosing instead to respond to the hunger for His teachings. Despite the encouragement given to the Apostles to take time for themselves, He recognised the pressing needs of the people who had come to Him. He was willing to set aside his own needs for the sake of those longing for guidance and love.
So, what guides our decisions in our daily lives? Do we consistently consider the welfare of others in our choices? Reflect for a moment on what you regularly pray for – is it mostly for your own desires, or do you intercede for others as well? Are we ready to sacrifice some of our own comforts in order to extend a helping hand to those who are in need?
Lord, You are our protector and our guide, shielding us from harm. Grant us the strength to stand steadily upon Your word and the faith to seek Your assistance in every situation. May we always find solace and refreshment in Your presence, empowering us to reach out and uplift those around us.
