Concern for a Brother

23^rd Sunday – Ez 33:7-9; Rom 13:8-10; Matthew 18:15-20

If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone (Mt 18:15).

Today, Jesus reminds us that we are responsible for one another. It is often easier to spot someone’s fault, speak about it to others, criticise, or simply walk away and say, “It’s none of my business.” But the Gospel shows us a better way: loving concern that is brave enough to meet a person face to face.

True fraternal correction is not about judging someone or proving that we are better than they are. It should come from love, humility, and a sincere desire for the good of the other person. When love leads, even a difficult conversation can become a moment of grace.

Notice the people and relationships in your life that may need your attention today. Is there someone who needs a conversation, understanding, or forgiveness?

Judge

Ask yourself honestly: do your words about others come from love, or from irritation, jealousy, or a habit of judging? The Lord invites us to examine not only what we say, but the spirit in which we say it.

Act

Instead of speaking about someone, try speaking with them calmly, kindly, and sincerely. Real care often takes courage, but that courage can help heal wounds, rebuild trust, and even save a relationship.

Jesus, teach me to care for others with love, courage, and respect. Amen.
