Wednesday in the Easter Octave – Acts 3:1-10; Luke 24:13-35

While we in our diocese today bury a brother priest, a much liked parish priest, I still wake up to the fourth day of a holy celebration. Because our celebration continues – we are in the Easter octave and we want some part of this joy to go on as long as possible. Like the disciples going to Emmaus, who asked, “Stay with us, for it is almost evening and the day is nearly over.” Like the disciples who, seeing the lame man, wanted to convey to him what they themselves had experienced: the grace of Jesus.

We miss the presence of such people around us – those who will explain to us the meaning of events; those who make our Easter joy fuller . . .

We will miss Fr Roddy, but he would for sure be saying “the celebration goes on!”.
