Easter week 2, Tuesday – Acts 4:32-37; John 3:7-13

The Son of Man must be lifted up . . . so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.

Why didn’t Nicodemus understand? Could a teacher of Israel not know something about God, or about salvation? He didn’t understand that Jesus is God. The scribes and the Pharisees certainly observed His miraculous healings and teaching. They accepted what was earthly about Jesus and rejected the work of salvation He began. They didn’t understand that Jesus is the Son sent by God the Father and that through Him the salvation of all people would be accomplished.

Jesus presents us with the truth about heaven in the most complete and the most trustworthy way because no one has been there except Him. He is the only one who fully reveals God to people, who reconciles the whole world with Him. He says that will be when He is raised on the cross. And so as to participate in salvation it is enough to believe this.

Nicodemus could have chosen Jesus as the only Saviour. However, he had to make the choice God sets before all the faithful. Whether the one who is presented in story of Israel and whether he will also follow the revelation of God in Jesus – the Son of God. I also stand before a choice. I can follow Jesus with all the consequences for my life, or in a passive way I can just recognise that when He lived in earth did miracles and taught beautifully.

Jesus, I want to recognise You and trust You without any exception. Let Your Spirit lead me to fulfil my Father’s will in my life.
