Saturday of Week Nine – 2 Timothy 4:1-8; Mark 12:38-44
Ever read Saint Paul’s letters and think, “Wow, he could be writing about today”? When he warns Timothy about times when people will get tired of sound doctrine and seek out teachers to tickle their ears with myths, it can feel awfully familiar.
It’s easy to get discouraged by the confusion. But Paul’s advice isn’t to perfectly fix the world or win every argument. His call to Timothy – and to us – is much more personal and manageable. He simply says:
* Be watchful.
* Endure hardship.
* Do the work of an evangelist.
* Fulfil your ministry.
This is a quiet, steady faithfulness. It’s the “coin by coin” offering of the poor widow. We aren’t called to focus on the noise and the myths, but to keep our eyes on Jesus, “who will judge the living and the dead.” In our small, daily acts of love and service, we fulfil our mission and find our peace in Him.
