Friday of 3rd Week of Lent – Hos 14:2-10; Ps 80:6-11, 14, 17; Mark 12:28-34

You can feel surprised. Even disappointed. Listen? Love? It’s terribly imprecise. And how to fill it in?
The law and commandments can feel overwhelming sometimes, can’t they? A lawyer once turned to Jesus with a burning question: what’s the most important commandment? And here’s what Jesus said: “Listen, Israel, the Lord our God is the only Lord.” This was more than just a statement; it was an invitation to pay attention, to really listen.
But then, there’s that powerful call to love. Love God with every part of who you are, and love others as you love yourself. It’s simple yet profound, and it might even leave you feeling a bit confused. It’s not like there’s a check-box for how to do it, right? How do we really measure our listening and loving?
Here’s the thing: God isn’t handing out strict targets. Instead, He models this love through His own actions. And He loves when we give joyfully. So, it’s really up to us to decide how deeply we want to follow Him. It might seem daunting, but think of it as an exciting journey – one we get to embrace every day!
