Week 16 Friday – Jer 3:14-17; Matthew 13:18-23
Blessed are those who, hearing the word, hold it fast in an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with patience. (cf. Lk 8:15).
It’s all about the heart – right there, deep within. Your heart is the soil where God’s word takes root, and it deserves your special care.
Before any fruit appears, the seasons must pass. The journey from seed to harvest is long and gentle. Listening is only the beginning; you must also make room, creating a welcoming space so the word can truly dwell within you.
The word of God holds the power to transform your heart, making it honest and good. In this way it becomes a strong defence against settling for “a mediocre, watered-down and empty life” (GE 1). Instead, open yourself to the rich life God offers – one full of happiness, flavour and holiness – so you may become truly fertile soil.
How can you begin?
- Take Pope Francis’s warm encouragement to heart: set aside time each day, whether alone or with family, to read and meditate on Sacred Scripture.
- Draw from it the strength you need for your Christian life.
- Then, with quiet courage, share the word with others by living it faithfully every day, bearing witness to Christ and his Gospel.
You are invited to let the word grow in you – season by season – and bring forth a harvest of joy.
