Tuesday of Week 14 – Hos 8:4-7,11-; Ps 113b; Matthew 9:32-37
Ever feel like you’re just “patching things up”? You fix one leak in your life, and another wall starts to crumble. It’s the classic “out of the frying pan, into the fire” scenario. The Prophet Hosea warned that when we rely only on ourselves, our “corn has no heads; it shall yield no flour” (Hosea 8:7). Even if we manage to grow something, it doesn’t satisfy.
In our modern world, idols aren’t usually golden statues. They are more subtle – like believing our bank accounts or the latest tech will finally give us peace. But a laptop is just a tool; it’s not a saviour. When we wander away from the True Shepherd to follow our own “DIY” blueprints, we inevitably lose our way.
Catholic tradition reminds us that true prosperity is found in Divine Providence. Here’s how we can shift our focus:
Surrender: Acknowledge that God’s plan beats our best-laid schemes.
Simplicity: Use the world’s tools, but keep your heart for the Lord.
Trust: Let Him be the Shepherd while you embrace being the sheep.
Lord, if what I seek is Your will, let it happen. If not, please stop me. Don’t leave me to my own devices—I’m not that wise! Keep me safe and lead me in Your gentle way.
