Memorial of the Immaculate Heart of Mary – Luke 2:41-51
His mother treasured up all these things in her heart.
Mary is this quiet, powerful witness to Jesus’ life. Everything that touched Him, she held close and turned over in her heart. That’s how deep God’s work can go in a human soul. She didn’t understand everything; a lot of it must have seemed confusing, even impossible. But she waited for the light of the Holy Spirit, trusting that what felt irrational could become the path to a new and greater life.
Mary didn’t run from what she couldn’t explain. She carried it. She prayed with it. She pondered it.
We, on the other hand, often want to push away what’s hard. If something annoys us, scares us, or shakes us, we’re quick to shut it out—and sometimes, in that shutting out, our faith gets weaker.
But every new day is another chance. A chance to open ourselves to the Holy Spirit’s light, to ask for that deep “wisdom of the heart” God wants to give us when we sit with His word and let love—not fear—shape how we see things.
Mary, teach me to receive, to guard, and to ponder God’s word in my heart.
Mary, Seat of Wisdom, pray for us.
